The Activities
The retreat features daily sessions to connect deeper to yourself and others through the 5 elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. Our activities include movement, dance, meditation, cacao ceremonies, authentic relating, and breathwork.
In between sessions, you’ll have enough time to relax, enjoy your time by the pool, or explore the nearby sand dunes. The final day culminates on a New Moon, the perfect time to plant new seeds for your path ahead and step forward with clarity.
We’ll also go on 2 excursions to learn more about the berber culture, visit a place for traditional spiritual music, berber shopping and fossil trekking. There is no pressure to join any of the activities, in case you want to take time for yourself to „retreat“.
Most important is that you ENJOY your time in the desert and that can magically unfold differently for everyone.

The Location
We’ll be staying in a typical berber Riad built by a former nomad family in a village at the footsteps of the dunes. The hotel has an inner courtyard (patio) with a pool, and semi-luxurious rooms in the first and second floor.
We will also venture out two nights into the Sahara desert and stay in nomad tents amidst the dunes for a full immersion into nomad life.

The Food
Vegetarian breakfast and dinner are included. We’ll serve traditional Moroccan dishes and intercontinental food, to vary the choices. For lunch you can choose to either skip the meal, get something from the menu in the hotel or grab a bite in nearby local places.
Be aware that local places serve little vegetarian options, but they have pizza, sandwiches, soups, salads, berber omelette, couscous and tajine. All of it very delicious!
There are also small shops with groceries and anything you might want to buy for daily necessities, or just to get an ice cream and some fruits.
Read more about the food here.

The Schedule
The retreat starts on the 22. March with a Marrakesh pick-up, where we leave in the early morning by minivan to arrive in Merzouga, Erg Chebbi, in the afternoon.
The retreat ends on the 29. March with a Marrakesh drop-off in the evening. You’ll need to book your own accommodation on the nights of the 21. March and the 29. March in Marrakesh. There is an option to skip the extra nights by arriving from Fes, see FAQ.

The Teacher
Anna SOFIA is a transformational life coach, energy healer, certified yoga and meditation teacher, shamanic practitioner, and DJ. Her work is based on embodiment, playfulness, creativity, and Kundalini energy, creating a grounded connection between the spiritual and the „real world“. She has been coming to the Sahara desert since 2013, crossing the dunes from left to right, center, up, down and back.
She also spent several years in India completing a multitude of trainings, while also learning from an ancient sage as his only disciple at a holy cave. In Mexico she went deep into the wisdom of the Maya and the tradition of cacao ceremonies and started including authentic relating games in her sessions.
Anna has lead retreats, workshops, ceremonies, teacher trainings and private sessions in different parts of the world and online, and has her meditations featured on Insight Timer. She was part of Boom Festival, Baltic Tantra Festival and Xperience Festival in Germany and an editor for a book about yoga. Nowadays she enjoys being in big cities as much as in nature, giving coaching sessions, designing websites, or customizing her own clothing.

Important Desert Travel Tipps
It gets hot in the Sahara desert during the day ( ~ 26°C), so bring your sunscreen and sunglasses! However, it can be chilly at night in March (~12°C), so it’s recommended to have at least one pair of long pants / jeans, a light jacket, a jumper or a long-sleeve and a shawl with you.
You’ll also need a shawl to protect you from the desert sand, because even in the village there is a lot of sand :). Btw, you can buy a local berber shawl in the village too. They have one color on the top and another color on the bottom.
Also, you are in Morocco, which is a Muslim country. The berber originally were not Muslim as their connection is more earth/sky bound, but most of them are now, so you’ll hear the occasional mosque nearby. One of the Imams has a laundry service too, so if you want to get your laundry washed by the Imam from the mosque – a once in a lifetime opportunity – voilá. Only in the desert. 🙂
